Heleen started her career as an Occupational Therapist in 1978 and has worked in the field of Paediatrics and Education for most of her career.
In 1999 she moved to New Zealand where she gained valuable experience in the field of Mental Health and Intellectual Disability.
Returning to South Africa in 2004 she worked in private practice until she took a position as Manager of Thusanani Children’s Foundation. The Thusanani Children’s Foundation is an NGO offering free therapy to children in Children’s Homes in Johannesburg.
In 2008 Heleen moved on to become the Director of Active Learning Libraries South Africa, the Non-Profit Organisation that provided training and support to Toy Libraries in South Africa.
In 2011 she joined Educanda, a supplier of Learning Support Material to schools in South Africa, as an Educational consultant and played a pivotal part in the creation of Professional Development courses for teachers. Nowadays, Heleen continues to work as an independent consultant and advises schools throughout the country on training & learning support material needs.
